Houndhill Gardening and Landscaping projects

2011 Our maturing gardens.
As our gardens grew our land became increasingly colorful. We had a beautiful spring and the pear trees were quite spectacular. With the maturing gardens I had to spend more time on maintenance, especially weeding.
After heavy spring rain washed out much of our parking lot Gary decided that we needed a drainage pipe around the entire edge. This was lots of tractor work. We also decided to move my pool out of the lot and up to the cabin yard. We were also having some problems with the dining room slide-out leaking and the awning covering it needing repair,

The next project was vegetable garden. We chose a spot higher up on our land below a flat area where we eventually planned to build a barn for storage and Gary's wood studio. A giant dead white pine had fallen over that winter and we used it to create a flat area on the slope. After anchoring the log Gary filled in behind it with the tractor, We created two raised beds and then put up a fence to keep out the deer, dogs and other assorted critters. I used skinny stick trees that are plentiful in the woods to create a funky fence. Higher up behind the fenced garden I planted an asparagus bed. (last photo below).
The photos above ?? Growing at edge of our woods. Below left is wild blue phlox. The Virginia blue bells (right below) I planted last year. They bloom in spring and then totally die back until the following spring.
Mexican sage is one of my favorite summer plants. It doesn't winter over here so I buy one every year. The picture below shows the garden by the cabin where I spent a lot of time working this summer. Before we knew it fall arrived.

And, we were off to Rochester for the holiday season with a load of work we had collected from local artists for Craft Company.
